Whitemarsh Community Ambulance Association was established in 1956 with an idea and a $10 donation from a concerned township resident. The charter members Norman H. Wooley (President), A. Leon Feder (Vice President), Thomas White (Vice President), Edwin L. Anderson (Secretary), Geoffrey S. Smith Jr. (Treasurer) and A. Fred Spaeth purchased our first ambulance from Ambler using the $10 donation as a down payment.
On May 30, 1956 at 2:15 am we received our first ambulance dispatch for a motorcycle accident on Germantown Pike. The crew members that worked our inaugural dispatch were Norman Wooley (driver), Harold Cripe (Aide) and George Fink (Aide). The patient was transported to Chestnut Hill Hospital.
In 1956 our services were requested 30 times. In 2019 our services were requested more than 4,300 times! We have grown from having a used Cadillac ambulance to operating five fully stocked Advanced Life support Ambulances and two wheelchair vans.

Whitemarsh Community Ambulance Association (WCAA) has been providing emergency care to the residents of Whitemarsh Township since 1956. We are committed to providing the highest quality ambulance service to all residents and visitors of our area.
We are a non-profit organization without dedicated tax-dollars for support. We rely on subscription drives like this, as well as other types of fundraising efforts throughout the year. We also bill for our services (third party billing), in order to recoup as much of our expenses as possible, so that we can continue to provide high quality EMS care.
The base rate for emergency ambulance service ranges from $800 to $1,200 while the average insurance reimbursement typically covers less than half of these fees. More importantly, the remaining balance becomes the financial responsibility of the patient.
Subscribers of our program will not have to pay any of the remaining balance with the exception of the LEGISLATIVELY MANDATED INSURANCE DEDUCTIBLES AND COPAYS. In comparison, non-subscribers are required by law to pay for all insurance deductibles, copays, uncovered service fees and possibly interest costs and attorney's fee if the account becomes delinquent.
